A photographic record of the street outside the Bank of England, filled end to end, with a rainbow across it.
Collateral damage is a phrase built to be skimmed past. It turns people into a category, and the category into a line in a report. This film exists to stop the skimming.
The method is deliberately plain. Show what happened. Name it accurately. Do not narrate the viewer toward a conclusion they are perfectly capable of reaching on their own. The strongest material in the film is the material that needed no commentary at all.
It was made on the conviction that people are not indifferent, they are insulated, and that the insulation is largely linguistic. Remove the phrase and you are left with a child, a street, a family, and a decision somebody made a long way away.
